The People’s Pantry of Lakeview was founded in 1970 to help feed the less fortunate people of the Lakeview neighborhood in Chicago. That first year, they fed around 100 people, but the organization has grown a bit since then.

The Lakeview Pantry of today services over 100,000 people. It operates in 15 communities across Chicago. And it provides about four million meals annually.

In addition to meals, the organization has expanded much-needed social services as well, including crisis intervention, help finding a job, and mental health counseling. Their ultimate goal, as they say, is a “hunger-free Chicago.”
